Hammer HEED - High Energy Electrolyte Drink - All Complex Carbohydrate Formula with a very light taste

Hammer HEED is a definite "step up" and welcome departure from the seemingly endless number of powdered sports drinks available to endurance athletes, giving you all the convenience of a powdered drink mix along with many added benefits not found in the vast majority of sports drinks.

One of the primary flaws inherent with most sports drinks is their reliance on simple sugar as the carbohydrate source. The use of simple sugar such as glucose, sucrose, and fructose not only severely limits the amount of calories that can be efficiently digested and utilized for energy, it may cause wild fluctuations in energy levels.

HEED's all-complex carbohydrate formula, on the other hand, allows you to obtain the ideal amount of calories you need, providing a more consistent and longer lasting energy supply, and without putting you at risk for stomach distress.

HEED also provides a complete and easily assimilated electrolyte profile, not just salt and potassium, which comprise the electrolyte "profile" of most other drinks. For some athletes, one or two scoops of HEED will completely fulfill electrolyte requirements (in addition to caloric requirements). For other athletes, the electrolyte profile in HEED will provide an excellent base from which additional Endurolytes can be added to completely satisfy electrolyte needs. With added chromium polynicotinate for maintaining stable blood glucose levels and l-carnosine for buffering lactic acid, HEED is truly in a class of its on in the world of powdered sports drinks.

So whenever and wherever a sports drink is your preferred choice, heed your body's desire for a superior fuel. HEED is the only choice you need to make.

  • Light, non-sweet, non-syrupy taste
  • Smooth, even energy-no sugar spikes or crashes
  • Help protect against cramps
  • Buffer lactic acid
  • Low acid formula
  • Full spectrum electrolyte profile
  • Promote oral health, not tooth decay
  • Great value

Sports drinks have been around a long time and for many athletes they're more convenient than energy gels. Unfortunately, most sports drinks are not much more than artificially coloured sugar water that does little to aid your performance and even less for your health.

That is why HEED is a healthy alternative for you. HEED's subtle tasting, all-complex carbohydrate formula goes down easily and supplies you with consistent, long-lasting energy and the electrolytes you need to keep pushing the pace. Because we add no citric acid to the formula, it will not burn your throat or stomach no matter how long you drink it. HEED's sweetener, xylitol - is actually good for you, xylitol being especially beneficial for helping promote oral health. The full-spectrum, all chelated mineral, electrolyte profile helps satisfy your body's mineral requirements. L-Carnosine and Chromium Polynicotinate help to buffer lactic acid and support stable blood glucose levels.

If you prefer sport drinks over energy gels or like to use the two together, try HEED... and find out what a sports drink done right can do for your athletic performance.

Main benefits of consuming product:
As with all Hammer Nutrition fuels, there are no added simple sugars in Hammer Gel, which allows for a greater volume of calories to be easily digested, providing more fuel for energy production.
Convenience is also a primary benefit of Hammer Gel - gels in general are convenient as they provide a concentrated source of calories.
When should it be consumed?
If Hammer Gel is used as a pre-workout/race meal it should be consumed at least three hours prior to the workout/race. If this is not logistically feasible it should be consumed as close to the start of the workout/race as possible, approximately no later than 5-10 minutes prior.
Either of these pre-exercise fueling techniques will ensure efficient utilization of muscle glycogen stores. Hammer Gel will satisfy all energy requirements for events up to two hours.
In training sessions/events longer than that Hammer Gel may be used to supplement protein-based fuels such as Perpetuem.
During races in the 1-2 hour range (perhaps even up towards 2.5 hours) Hammer Gel may be used as the sole energy source. During the run portion of half or full iron-distance triathlons, where carrying and consuming fuel can be a real nuisance, Hammer Gel's superb complex carbohydrate formula and its relative ease of carrying and consumption make it the fuel of choice.
How much should an athlete take. Below are estimates and each athlete should determine in training, under a variety of conditions, their personal optimum. Suggested use based on body weight:
Up to 54 kg: 2 servings/hour
54 - 70 kg: 2.5 servings/hour
70 - 86 kg: 3 servings/hour
86+ kg: 3 to 3.5 servings/hour
Usage Information
In a flask: Fill a small flask, which will give you about 5-6 servings equaling 500-600 calories. Take the flask and a water bottle or two out and consume 1-2 servings per hour while you exercise.
Mixed with Water: Hammer Gel mixes very easily right in your water bottle and can replace any powdered energy drink mix. Mix 1-3 servings in a 20-24 ounce water bottle and consume as needed while you exercise.
Post Workout Recovery: It is a very wise idea to supplement with 50-100 grams of carbohydrates and 15-20+ grams of protein within 30-60 minutes of finishing a workout or event. Instead of using an over priced, sugar and artificial ingredient filled recovery drink mix, you can make your own.
Use 2-3 servings of Hammer Gel with 1 scoop of Hammer Pro Whey or 2/3 of a scoop of Hammer Pro Soy. This will give you 48 to 92 grams of carbs and 18.5 to 21 grams of protein in an economical and great tasting post workout beverage.
Mix and Match Flavors: Mixing Hammer Gel flavors is fun and can give you an almost limitless variety of custom flavors. Some of the more popular combinations are:
Banana + Chocolate or Espresso = Banana Split
Orange + Vanilla = Orange Creamsicle
Raspberry + Orange + Banana = Fruit Punch
Raspberry + Espresso = Raspberry Mocha
Plain mixed with any other flavor to make it more mild for long term use

How much should an athlete consume?

Below are estimates and each athlete should determine in training, under a variety of conditions, their personal optimum. Suggested use based on body weight:

Up to 54 kg: 1.5 scoops/hour

54 - 70 kg: 2.5 scoops/hour

70 - 86 kg: 2.75 scoops/hour

86+ kg: 3 to 3 scoops/hour

Usage Suggestions & Notes:

HEED may be used as the sole source of calories, fluids and electrolytes during workouts and races lasting up to two hours and as a partial source of calories when exercising for periods well in excess of two hours.

Each scoop of HEED contains the equivalent amount of electrolytes as approximately 2/3 of an Endurolytes serving. For many athletes, under normal conditions, one or two scoops of HEED will completely fulfill electrolyte requirements. When heat stress increases significantly, you will need to consume additional Endurolytes.

Flavours available are Subtle Citrus (lemon/Lime) or Mandarin Orange

    Heed this drink!

Posted by Jacque on 7th Nov 2016

Great replacement drink though I have not yet used it through a summer so am looking forward to seeing how it stands up to the demands! I have only been using it for the last 6 months which has been our off season so with the extra demands of training as we enter the season will be the true test for me. It took a short while to get use to the taste but happy with the mild flavour. I am a Senior C dragon boat paddler.

This is the BEST electrolyte supplement on the market. It is an excellent product I have been drinking it regularly for the last 4 years during martial arts training with green tea in my water bottle to enhance my detox and energy levels and I am 47. So is also great for my bones, stamina & focus during training. It works well and is an excellent product.
