Hammer Gel is primarily used during training sessions and races. However, it may be used as a pre-workout meal or for recovery, providing an excellent source of easily digested carbohydrates.

Convenience is also a primary benefit of Hammer Gel - gels in general are convenient as they provide a concentrated source of calories.
When should it be consumed?
If Hammer Gel is used as a pre-workout/race meal it should be consumed at least three hours prior to the workout/race. If this is not logistically feasible it should be consumed as close to the start of the workout/race as possible, approximately no later than 5-10 minutes prior. Either of these pre-exercise fueling techniques will ensure efficient utilization of muscle glycogen stores.
Hammer Gel will satisfy all energy requirements for events up to two hours. In training sessions/events longer than that Hammer Gel may be used to supplement protein-based fuels such as Perpetuem. During races in the 1-2 hour range (perhaps even up towards 2.5 hours) Hammer Gel may be used as the sole energy source. During the run portion of half or full iron-distance triathlons, where carrying and consuming fuel can be a real nuisance, Hammer Gel's superb complex carbohydrate formula and its relative ease of carrying and consumption make it the fuel of choice.
How much should an athlete consume?
Below are estimates and each athlete should determine in training, under a variety of conditions, their personal optimum. Suggested use based on body weight:
Up to 54 kg: 2 servings/hour
54 - 70 kg: 2.5 servings/hour
70 - 86 kg: 3 servings/hour
86+ kg: 3 to 3.5 servings/hour
Usage:
In a flask: Fill a small flask, which will give you about 5-6 servings equaling 500-600 calories. Take the flask and a water bottle or two out and consume 1-2 servings per hour while you exercise.
Mixed with Water: Hammer Gel mixes very easily right in your water bottle and can replace any powdered energy drink mix. Mix 1-3 servings in a 20-24 ounce water bottle and consume as needed while you exercise.
Post Workout Recovery: It is a very wise idea to supplement with 50-100 grams of carbohydrates and 15-20+ grams of protein within 30-60 minutes of finishing a workout or event. Instead of using an over priced, sugar and artificial ingredient filled recovery drink mix, you can make your own. Use 2-3 servings of Hammer Gel with 1 scoop of Hammer Pro Whey or 2/3 of a scoop of Hammer Pro Soy. This will give you 48 to 92 grams of carbs and 18.5 to 21 grams of protein in an economical and great tasting post workout beverage.

I bought this for use as a companion to perpetuem for anaconda augusta. As a first time user i was very impressed, great taste, mixes fine with a good shake. I used it in my hydration packs and found i had energy for all 6.5hrs.

Hammer Gel 26 Serving jug review
I recently purchased the Hammer Gel 26 Serving jug.
This product is excellent value for money and is a far more efficient way to cater for your calorie requirements during a long ride.
It provides convenient access in one of the fuel bottles plus it is far easier to consume than worrying about multiple gel sachets.
I would suggest when using to water down by approximately 20 percent for easy and quick consumption during a race.
