The Dutch port city of Rotterdam hosted the “Grand Depart” for the 2010 TDF and with it came the expectations and promise of a fascinating three week contest.

As defending title-holder, Alberto Contador was again regarded as the man to beat - the Spaniard’s main challengers expected from rising Luxembourg star Andy Schleck and Australia’s reigning world champion Cadel Evans.

It was a nostalgic farewell for Lance Armstrong as the Tour’s most successful champion had announced this would be his last appearance on the roads of France.

The spirit of the Tour is reflected by the images of the brilliant coverage - images which encapsulate the sight, smells and taste that France has to offer all the way to the Paris finish on the world’s greatest boulevard, the Champs Élysées.
